HSB's microelectronics coverage gets printing press back online
Electronic Circuitry Impairment pays to replace non-functioning equipment
When a press at a commercial printing facility shut down unexpectedly, it could have had a significant impact on the business. Thanks to the Electronic Circuitry Impairment (ECI) coverage available in HSB TechAdvantage™, the coverage was available when the problem was traced to a faulty electronic circuitry component.
No observable damage
Technicians traced the problem to a device called a programmable logic controller, or PLC, which is used to monitor and control the operation of the printing press. Although it showed no signs of physical damage, it was unresponsive to reloading of software and data.
Replacement part confirmed problem
Once the PLC was replaced and reprogrammed, the printing press returned to working order. Although the PLC had no observable damage, replacing it restored its ability to function. HSB TechAdvantage™ equipment breakdown insurance paid for the loss under the policy's additional Covered Cause of Loss — ECI.
The only coverage with Electronic Circuitry Impairment
HSB TechAdvantage™ is the only equipment breakdown coverage that includes a cause of loss for ECI. HSB paid $5,000 to resolve the problem with the printing press.
HSB TechAdvantage™ includes more than that
In additional to the traditional equipment breakdown coverage, ECI is one of many valuable coverage enhancements included in HSB TechAdvantage™, which is available through agents and brokers.
