HSB's fast action helps apartment building keep the heat on

Watch this video of an the internal boiler leak

With the temperatures dropping and a boiler leaking in a Minnesota apartment building, HSB Inspector John Glynn responded quickly to help pinpoint the problem so a repair crew could restore full service. He soon spotted the source and captured this video of the leak.

The temperatures were falling

It was late fall in Minnesota, when night time temperatures can dip below freezing, and a contractor was called in to fix the problem before the boiler broke down and stopped working. The boiler was operating at reduced capacity and the landlord rented portable heaters in case the heat was lost.

Seeking the leak

The leak was inside the boiler and could not be seen from the outside. HSB's Glynn was there when the crew opened up the boiler and he discovered the leak was originating from a crack in the pressure section of the boiler.

HSB paid $21,000 to replace the boiler

With Glynn's report in hand, HSB Field Claims Adjuster Jodi Baumtrog authorized HSB's payment of $21,000 to help replace the boiler under the customer's equipment breakdown policy. The tenants of the apartment building did not have to relocate and the customer did not lose income.
