Hartford Steam Boiler and Munich Reinsurance America have announced a new Employment Practices Liability (EPL) insurance program that offers broader coverage and additional risk management services for small businesses. The program is offered through insurance companies that partner with HSB or Munich Re America. QUALITY COVERAGE, AFFORDABLE PREMIUMS Jointly developed by HSB and Munich Re America to provide quality coverage with affordable premiums, the new EPL program is designed for businesses with up to 50 employees and has advanced coverage previously only available to large companies. NEW COVERAGE FOR PRIOR ACTS, PUNITIVE DAMAGES These EPL coverage features include: • Coverage for prior acts that occur before the policy's inception date.

•	Punitive damages coverage (where insurable under state law).
•	A broadened definition of employees to include independent contractors.
•	Optional third-party coverage for discrimination and harassment claims made by business customers or vendors.

THE TREND IS MORE RISK FOR EMPLOYERS
"The danger to small businesses of employment-related charges continues to grow," said Jeffrey O'Shaughnessy, vice president of HSB. "Combine the current business climate that has forced many employers to trim their staff with evolving employment laws and an aging and more diverse workforce, and the trend is more risk for employers."

LEGAL HELPLINE, LOSS PREVENTION WEBSITE
A legal helpline helps business owners avoid employment claims and obtain general employment guidance. The program also includes a loss prevention website to help employers prevent claims and more effectively defend against a charge.

FLEXIBLE, EASY, AFFORDABLE
With limits from $25,000 to $1 million, coverage is endorsed to commercial policies of insurance companies that partner with either HSB or Munich Re America. The program is reinsured, implemented and administered by HSB, making it simple and affordable, with no separate underwriting process required.
