What You Should Know About New York City's New Boiler Inspection Law
Help Your Customers Prepare for New Jurisdictional Code Requirements

Changes in the New York City Building Codes, effective July 1, 2008, could have serious implications for boiler owners. Your customers in New York City should be informed as soon as possible. Here are some facts you can share.

  • New York City's revised boiler inspection code is effective July 1, 2008.

  • Boiler owners need to correct certain defects found during jurisdictional inspections; schedule a second inspection to verify the corrections; and file an Affirmation of Correction report with the city. The city must receive the report within the 45 days from the date of the original inspection.

  • Most licensed repair firms should complete the Affirmation of Correction report as a condition for doing the corrective work required by the boiler owner.

  • Failure to comply will result in fines of up to $5,000 paid by the boiler owner.

  • The New York City Department of Buildings has related information on its website.
