Dry Cleaning and Laundry Equipment Gets Hard Use, Can Break Down
Dry cleaners and laundries operate a range of electrical and mechanical equipment. Breakdowns like these typical
losses can be expensive and damage customer relationships when orders are not completed on time.
- A laundry couldn't provide hospitals with clean sheets when the side frame that holds steam rollers in place on a flat iron broke in half. HSB replaced the equipment for a paid loss of $57,695.
- A power surge shorted out the motor on a dry cleaner's air compressor. The total paid loss of $11,596 included $2,019 for repairs and $9,577 for business interruption and extra expense.
- The bottom interior wall on the still of a dry cleaning machine cracked and resulted in a breakdown. The dry cleaner was paid $9,954 for repairs and $3,251 for business interruption: a total paid loss of $13,205.
- A boiler used to provide process steam for a commercial laundry cracked and broke down. A temporary boiler was installed. Total paid loss: $37,216, including $11,619 for repairs and $25,597 in business interruption and extra expense.
- A weld failed on a dry cleaner's high-pressure boiler and caused a breakdown. The repairs totaled $18,500.
