HSB Steps Up When Vintage Elevator Breaks Down

That experience paid off when a vintage elevator broke down in a downtown office building. The building's three elevators were installed in the 1950s, but were regularly maintained and operating well. Then debris entered the elevator machinery and caused the generator and motor in the main passenger elevator to short out.
NO SPARE PARTS
The elevator manufacturer said the generator could not be replaced since it was a rare type and long out of production. The only option, the owners were told, was to replace and upgrade the entire elevator at a cost of at least $200,000. Instead, HSB had a vendor locate a replacement motor and restore the elevator to full service.
FIXED WITH LESS FUSS
HSB resolved the problem faster without the need for expensive new equipment and intrusive building reconstruction. Our equipment breakdown coverage paid $15,987 to refurbish the motor and re-install the generator. The elevators and other building equipment continued to be covered for breakdowns by the policy.
