Did You Know?

You Can't Bury Equipment Exposures
Underground utilities are commonly used on commercial properties. Buried electrical cables are protected from wind storms and improve the appearance of business zones. But they are susceptible to moisture leaks which can cause short circuits and electrical arcing. The added difficulty of accessing and replacing underground cables also can lengthen the time it takes for repairs and increase business interruption losses.

Don't Leave Small Business Clients Exposed To Workplace Charges

With an increasing number of work-related lawsuits directed at smaller businesses, more insurers are including employment practices liability (EPL) coverage for these clients. The challenge is to find quality coverage that is reasonably priced and easy to include. HSB's Portfolio EPL Coverage takes an automatic approach that makes EPL coverage affordable for a carrier's entire book of small business accounts.

University's Loss is a Lesson in the Value of Equipment Coverage
With So Much Equipment, So Much Can Go Wrong

Students and faculty had just returned from a holiday break when a short circuit in an electrical cable knocked out power to the campus of a graduate business university. Deteriorated insulation caused the accident, which destroyed more than 625 feet of heavy gauge wire. Portable generators provided temporary power until repairs were finished more than a week later. The loss totaled $74,320.

CRITICAL CONNECTIONS
Equipment is critical to university operations. Computers, data networks, telecommunications and other electrical equipment is vulnerable to power surges and short circuits. Universities also rely on other equipment including complicated heating and cooling systems that are at risk of mechanical breakdowns. An equipment breakdown can cause damage to the facility and disruption for the staff and students.

BROADER PROTECTION
HSB provides broad equipment breakdown protection for universities. We cover virtually any type of equipment for repair or replacement, business interruption, extra expense, spoilage and other exposures related to equipment breakdown. With HSB, your clients can get coverage for restoring or re-entering lost data — a key benefit with so many computers and databases used on campus — and jurisdictional inspections are included in the basic coverage.
